St. Louis Homes & Gardens Magazine, September/October 1993 issue paraphrased… and comments from some of our valued customers. In 1993, designer and owner of CIGI Gallery, Charlene Rooney restored Elegance to "The Studio". St. Louis Homes & Garden Magazine labeled it the GEM of St. Albans. Maintaining this country retreats rich sense of history and style was essential for this designer. She closely supervised a team of seasoned craftsman and artisans to complete the work. It included: New plumbing, electrical, HVAC and even indoor and outdoor stonework. The decorative wood beams designed for the dining room not only enhanced its beauty but it moved utilities through the room as well. Detailed frescoing and "tromp d'oeil" (trick of the eye") painting then completed this rooms canvas. Hand painted tiles and wood hood, together with an imaginary window she designed, transformed a dark underground kitchen into an ideal catering service area for corporate retreats, weddings and smaller private gatherings. Throughout this eighteen-room home, Charlene selected distinctive pieces of art and period furnishings that enhanced its beauty and esthetic appeal. Always giving great respect to the original architect and design, Charlene enjoyed completing this project with the endorsement of freedom in her creative process.
